Research Interests
Professor Emeritus since 2009, Tim Law first joined Carleton as a full-time faculty member in 1991 after working for the National Research Council of Canada. His expertise in mitigating natural hazards caused by landslides and earthquakes is widely sought. He has consulted for many projects including the James Bay Hydro Electric project, highway projects in the Maritimes, and major landslide investigations in Canada, China, Hong Kong and South America. He has twice led and participated in many Canadian national reconnaissance teams to survey damage of major earthquakes around the globe. His prolific research output has resulted in three books (co-authored), over 170 technical papers in refereed journals and conferences, and a U.S. patent for obtaining valuable design information during drilling into the ground. Geotechnical engineering applied to foundation design, landslides, and seismic hazards.
Current research includes geotechnical hazard mitigation, dynamic and static stability of slopes, and liquefaction of soils.
