The School of Journalism and Communication
Welcome to Communication Studies in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University. Whether you are a current student in our undergraduate or graduate programs, a prospective student looking for information about our faculty and courses, or a former graduate seeking to reconnect, I hope this site will help guide you to the information and/or people you need to assist you.
With approximately 65 graduate students in our MA and PhD programs and over a thousand BA students, Communication Studies offers a vibrant and exciting intellectual community. We have faculty who are leading experts in their field with specialties including cultural policy, new social media, environmental communication, global media industries, diversity in the media and promotional culture, among other subjects.
In our undergraduate program students can choose to pursue an Honours or a Combined Honours degree, and you can also opt to follow one of our three areas of Concentration within the degree. We also have a Co-op Option for students interested in acquiring work experience while taking their degree.
In our graduate programs, students will learn essential research and critical thinking skills required for positions in media industries, strategic communications and regulatory and policy environments. Our PhD graduates are forming the next generation of communication scholars as well as holding senior positions in government and cultural agencies.
On behalf of our faculty and staff, I encourage you to explore our website and to contact us if you have any questions. We also would be happy to welcome you should you decide to visit us at any time.
