The Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University is research-intensive, attracting millions of dollars in research funding annually. Our faculty members are internationally known for research expertise in many branches of engineering and design. We count many refereed journal editors, research chairs, conference organizers, and professional society leaders among our ranks.
Our researchers are innovating at a prolific rate as demonstrated by the number and quality of their published articles and conference presentations. This naturally leads to our inclusion in several provincial and federal Centers of Excellence as well as research partnerships with government laboratories, industry leaders and other universities worldwide. For example, we are the only Canadian location for a Texas Instruments Elite Digital Signal Processing laboratory, and the only Canadian member of Alcatel’s Research Partner program.
Graduate students are an essential part of any research program. The Faculty of Engineering and Design offers a full range of master’s and doctoral programs in Engineering, as well as a research-oriented master’s degree in Architecture. Some of the graduate programs that we offer jointly with the University of Ottawa are among the largest programs in their disciplines in Canada.
The seven core themes in our strategic research plan build on our past strengths and lay the groundwork for future breakthroughs:
- Computers and Intelligent Systems
- Communication Networks and Systems
- Human Interaction with the Environment
- Biomedical Engineering
- Advanced Materials and Systems
- Transportation Systems
- Design and Cultural Context
Details on our researchers, projects, and facilities are available elsewhere on this website, or will be appearing here soon. Browse these pages to discover the breakthroughs that are now incubating in our labs.
