Our job is your grade.
PASS workshops are run by students and designed to help you strengthen your study skills by incorporating course content with student discussion.
PASS is free of cost! It is beneficial for anyone who wants to improve their grades. Just make sure a PASS workshop is offered for the course you wish to improve in and attend!
WINTER 2012 PASS WORKSHOPS BEGIN THE WEEK OF JANUARY 16TH
Times and locations will be posted the week of January 9th (please keep checking!)
Why is PASS so popular?
The answer is simple: Students who attend PASS workshops regularly earn a higher final course grade than those who do not attend.
What is PASS?
A series of weekly study sessions, PASS is offered for selected courses and provides you with the skills you need to improve your grade. Run by a student who has previously taken the course, PASS allows you to compare notes with other students, discuss important concepts and develop strategies for studying.
Attendance is voluntary and anonymous- so your professor or TA will never know if you attend. If you attend PASS regularly, you will find that you have a better understanding of course content. Chances are you will earn a better grade!
What is a PASS Facilitator?
PASS facilitators are students who have taken the same course and achieved a grade of A- or higher.
Your Facilitator:
- Attends every class.
- Shares tips on the most effective study skills.
- Integrates how-to-learn with what-to-learn in PASS-supported classes.
- Provides leadership structure to the study session.
Your PASS Facilitator will not re-lecture you or give you class notes- although he/she can certainly answer any questions. The purpose of the workshop is for you to engage with fellow classmates to work through difficult concepts together.
How does PASS work?
If your class is supported by PASS, the Facilitator will make an announcement during the first class. To accommodate as many students as possible, you will vote on your top picks for workshop times. Keep these things in mind about PASS:
- Workshops will then be offered either 2 or 3 times per week on a drop-in bases.
- You can attend as many workshops as you like
- You do not need to sign up in advance
You will be guided through the workshop by your Facilitator. He/she will attend every lecture and develop a workshop plan so you can get the most out your time there. PASS workshops give you a chance to interact with other students in the class and practice applying the course concepts in a non-threatening environment.
PASS workshops are informal; bring your notes, your textbook and your questions!
